This question is typical and generic. Goldendoodles are great dogs, but only if they fit YOU. It’s the same with any dog breed or pet. If you’ve researched, I’m sure you know that Goldendoodles are active, affectionate, and intelligent dogs, among many things. So are Goldendoodles good dogs? Keep reading, and I’m sure you’ll find the answer….
Goldendoodles are good dogs if you are Active
Goldendoodles are active. What does that mean? It means they need exercise and need play. They need at least 30 min or more of exercise daily; trust me; they need more than that in their first few years.

When some people get a Goldendoodle, they don’t understand why their dog starts to misbehave or chew on the furniture. It’s easy for them to label their Goldendoodles as “bad” dogs, but is it really on them?
The majority of the time, the reason they misbehave is due to them not getting enough exercise and playtime.
Before getting a Goldendoodle, ask yourself if you have an active lifestyle. Do you exercise? Can you make time in your schedule to exercise your dog?
I’m not talking about you needing to run marathons with your dog or play with them from dawn till dusk (even though it is a lot of fun for me). Just spend 30 min to an hour a day throwing a ball or taking them on a walk. Goldendoodles are good dogs if YOU are active, just like they are.
Do yourself a favor and get one of these ball launchers. You can chuck some tennis balls pretty far and it’s a great way to get in some quick exercise for your Goldendoodle. It also prevents you having to hold a slobbery ball!
Goldendoodles are good dogs if you are Affectionate.
Goldendoodles are loyal, dependable, and affectionate dogs. They want to be your best friend and part of your family. These characteristics are why so many people choose to have a Goldendoodle. They love affection and love receiving affection.
So you need to know that these dogs will want this affection and attention from you. If you want a dog that likes doing its own thing most of the time, then maybe a Goldendoodle would not be best for you.
Dogs can feel emotions the same way that humans can. They can feel it if you don’t reciprocate their affection towards you. Of course, since dogs can’t voice their concerns, their behavior becomes destructive. Again, this can have you thinking, “geez, this dog is driving me crazy! I thought they were supposed to be good!”
If you ask yourself if you are showing enough attention and affection towards your Goldendoodle and the answer is no, then that could be the issue. Goldendoodles are good dogs if you are affectionate towards them.
Goldendoodles are good dogs if you Train them
This might be one of those “common sense” ways, but I have to write about it since it plays a vital role in your good/bad debate with Goldendoodles. If you train any dog in obedience, it will undoubtedly make your life easier. It will also mitigate a lot of destructive behaviors that you could be experiencing with your dog.
I believe Goldendoodles must be trained since they are so intelligent and were bred to complete tasks. The Goldendoodle’s parents, the Golden Retriever and the Poodle, were bred for hunters to retrieve the game they shot. A Goldendoodle has this drive in them. They want a task, whether learning new training commands or figuring out how to get a treat out of a toy.
Obedience training is the easiest and best way to provide this mental stimulation. The training offers this mental stimulation and helps with the disruptive behaviors you and your Goldendoodle are experiencing.
So now, can you answer the question, are Goldendoodles good dogs? I’m sure you’ve seen through this article that it isn’t about asking if Goldendoodles are good dogs, but instead asking, are Goldendoodles good dogs for me? Because if you are active, affectionate, and willing to train, they are some of the most amazing, fantastic, and beautiful dogs you will ever want.
